2007 - Great Slave 200 Dog Sled Race 

 

This 200 mile race starts in Fort Providence, Northwest Territories, Canada and ends in Yellowknife, the capital of the Northwest territories of Canada. Each musher starts with 12 dogs.

2008 - Tustemena 100 Dog Sled Race t

 

This race is a 100-mile out-and-back loop from the Tustumena Lodge to Caribou Lake and back. Mushers running in

this race will not be able to drop dogs at Caribou Lake, and they must be prepared to cook and care for their team at the halfway point, Caribou Lake. 4-hour mandatory layover, with a maximum of 6 hours allowed at this

checkpoint. Each musher starts with 10 dogs. This race consists of very hilly terrain. Currently, this is the trail system I train on .

 2008 - Sheep Mountain 150  Dog Sled Race

 

This race begins at sheep mountain Lodge in Sutton, Alaska. Each musher begins with ten dogs.  The race starts and finishes at Sheep Mountain Lodge.  There will be three legs of approximately 50 miles with two mandatory layovers of five hours separating them.  Both of the five-hour layovers will be at Eureka Lodge.  The first and last 50 miles will be the same trail between Sheep Mountain Lodge and Eureka lodge but run in the opposite direction.  The middle 50 miles will be a loop that starts and finishes at Eureka. This race is famous for its steep climbs.

2009 - Knik 200 Joe Redington Sr. Memorial Sled Dog Race

 
The Knik 200 covers 200 miles and is an Iditarod sanctioned race. The Knik 200-Joe Redington Sr. Memorial Sled Dog Race was founded by Sally Welch of Eagle River, Alaska. The Knik 200 was and continues to be a valuable training race for the Iditarod Trail Sled Dog Race. It is held each year on the first weekend in January. The race starts at Knik Lake, mile 13, Knik Goose Bay Rd. Mushers run on river for 100 miles. They take a 6 hour layover and return back to the Knik on the same trail. Mushers can run as many as 16 dogs in this race.
 

 

 

2009 - Copper Basin 300

 

This 300 mile race is said to be the toughest mid distance race in Alaska. The race begins at Wolverine Lodge on Lake Louise, Alaska.with a 49 mile run to Glenallen. The next leg is 59 miles to Chistochina. There is a 72 mile run to Paxon Lodge. Here there is 8 hours of manditory rest. There is also 12 hours of additional rest which may be divided up between all of the checkpoints. After Paxon, there is a 60 mile run to Sourdough Creek. The last run is also another 60 miles and finishes at Wolverine Lodge. This race has many steep hills,difficult trail conditions including deep snow. It makes an excellent training race for the Yukon Quest 1000.

2009 - Taiga 300 Spring Break Dog Sled Race

 

This race starts the first week of April at Wolverine Lodge in Lake Louise, AK.   Layovers are: Wolverene Lodge--6 hours, Maclaren Lodge--8 hours, and again at Maclaren Lodge for 4 hours. The race covered approximately 312 miles in segments of 60, 110, 30, and 110 miles. No planned help is allowed at any time during the race. Many musher will run the 110 mile legs without camping. The Mclaren River is well renown for its ice bridges. There can also be river overflow. Mushers start with 12 dogs in this race.
